Work Experience

I have had the priviledge of working with excellent engineering companies in my developing career as a Mechanical Engineer, during my studies through Concordia University's Co-Op program, and as a freelance programmer.

Industry Experience

PyroGenesis Canada Inc.

Mechanical Engineer CEP

October 2023 - Current
In this role, my primary focus is the development of state-of-the-art plasma torches and their implementation into custom systems within the realm of high-temperature furnaces and gas processing systems. Key responsibilities include creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor, performing critical engineering analyses (such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis - FMEA, and Finite Element Analysis - FEA), and ensuring all designs adhere strictly to industry engineering standards for compliance and safety. I collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective design integration and system implementation, and work directly with clients to understand their requirements and tailor engineering solutions to their specific needs.

PyroGenesis Canada Inc.

Research and Development Mechancial Designer

April 2022 - October 2023
I was privileged to be employed by PyroGenesis Canada Inc., an innovator in advanced plasma processes. More specifically, I worked in the branch of the company focused on producing metal powders for 3D printing applications through the process of Plasma Atomization (PyroGenesis Additive) - producing high quality powder up to the aerospace industry standards. In Research and Development, I created 3D model concepts of new designs for the purpose of new project proposals. Using my creativity and knowledge of both CAD and image rendering, I was able to generate concept models that balanced ingenuity and feasibility to secure approval for the new project. My job included supporting the powder production process with creating CAD designs to fix problems, various analyses techniques like stress analysis, FEA (Inventor NASTRAN), and CFD, as well as purchasing and managing of raw material for manufacturing. I was also charged with the Quality Inspection of parts I designed to ensure the dimensions and tolerances were well respected.

Advanced Dynamics

Mechanical Design Engineer

Jan 2020 - June 2020
At Advanced Dynamics, I had the chance to work under the leader for Mechanical Design team, which meant that I was able to experience various aspects of industry design work. I worked largely on diagnosing and fixing non-conforming parts that occurred during manufacturing, which meant that not only did I have to find design solutions to problems, but also corroborate with multiple different engineering teams. I produced models and technical drawings in SolidWorks and worked with everything from parts and assemblies to floor layouts within the SolidWorks PDM workflow. I also had the chance to be the lead Design Engineer on a project, where I designed a custom crossover platform for pedestrian traffic over machines on the client's factory floor (see Projects). In this project was able to use my creativity to make design choices using standards and manufacturer catalogues as resources.

Pratt & Whitney Canada

Quality Inspection Assistant Supervisor

May 2019 - Aug 2019
Previously, I had an internship with Pratt & Whitney Canada with the Quality Inspection team of the Logistics Center. As an Assistant Supervisor, this internship focused more on the managerial side of the engineering industry; I coordinated with three large teams of quality inspectors and oversaw the functioning of quotidian activities as well as handled employee schedules and time-off. I also was able to manage the priorities of engine parts using the SAP system in tandem with connecting in-person with managers, inspectors, and engineers around the factory to follow prioritized parts and ensure they made it to their desired location. I used my knowledge of programming to work with the employees and staff to improve the workflow of their organization processes, like the vacation-management system and the parts sorting system.

Freelance

Concordia Lanthanide Research Group

Freelance Programmer - C/C++

July 2021 - Sept 2021
I was contracted to improve the program that controlled the Lanthanide Lab's X-ray laser (see Projects). The laser is an Amptek MiniX X-ray tube, and the program that controlled it had be found to be lacking in some areas; mainly, there was no way to set a timer to turn off the laser after the duration of an experiment. Since experiments could range from 5 minutes to up to an hour, this meant the user had to time the experiment themselves and ensure they were present once the experiment ended. I found the code for the program and, along with a liason engineer at Amptek, I added an experiment timer, as well as an automated warm-up procedure to warm up the X-ray on its first use, and a service hour tracker.

Ottawa Timbits Hockey & Soccer Teams

Freelance Programmer - Ruby, Shopify, VBA

August 2021 - Oct 2021
I did some freelance work for a company that produces Hockey/Soccer jerseys and other equipment for Ottawa kids sports teams. Mainly, I helped them with a Ruby script they had commissionned to create new profiles on their Shopify E-Commerce website, but were having trouble with. I assisted them in integrating the script into their Shopify shop, as well as improved some parts of the script to make it easier for non-programmers to use. I also wrote some VBA macros to sort packaging orders from Shopify's raw data outputs.
